Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — “God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.”"

-"God Bless You Mr. Rosewater" Kurt Vonnegut

Proudly announcing Jonah Allen Sweet!

Born: September 30, 2:41pm

5 pounds 7 ounces, 18 1/2 inches long

Last Saturday Cara was hosting her home cross country invitational (she coaches for Prairie Central High School). After a long day of setting up, coordinating race results and tearing down, we were looking forward to a relaxing Sunday of sleeping in and getting some things ready for the baby who was supposed to come around November 1. This due date had Cara and I a bit worried because she is the Matron of honor and I am the best man in my brother's wedding next weekend. She kept saying we needed to videotape our reception dinner toasts which was not at all appealing to me. Well that problem was quickly resolved as we found ourselves making a trip to the hospital very early last Sun. morning.

After about 12 hours of labor (which by the way Cara says is harder than Ironman) Jonah Allen Sweet made his debut. For being a full month early he was a bit small, but didn't have any real problems other than a bit of jaundice which let him spend a day in the baby tanning salon bed.

Mom and baby have been home now for more than a week. Lexi (our dog) is adjusting to the new center of attention pretty well and would like nothing better than for us to leave Jonah alone on the floor where she could give him a thorough licking bath!

Jonah has been sleeping well between meals (2-3 hours). I can't even begin to imagine having a newborn and managing the type of training I was doing leading up to Ironman Wisconsin. To date, all I have done is 2 easy rides since Wisconsin. I forsee lots more time on the trainer this winter!
